チャーリー・パーカーの19歳の時に初めて歌詞付きで作った曲が、What Price Love? との事ですが、レコーディングまではしませんでした。21歳の時に歌詞を除いて演奏だけで人生初めてのレコーディングをしたのが、Yardbird Suiteと言われています。彼は34年間の人生で未発表曲（楽譜のみでレコーディング無し）も含めて85曲作曲しています。
そして、4回結婚をしていて、最初の妻は16歳の時に結婚した高校の先輩であり、同じ家の2回に居候していた家族の娘でもあったレベッカという女性でした。レベッカの気を引くために1日16時間サックスの練習をして、演奏会に招待したとの逸話が残っています。そして、16歳で結婚したのも束の間、彼は演奏活動で故郷カンザスシティを離れてシカゴやニューヨークに長期滞在するようになって、二人の間に亀裂が入り、21歳の時に二人は離婚をしてしまいます。
